George Costanza...fashion ICON?

haha via startfinish...

I bought too many pork chops...

...and I got sick of eating plain grilled chops... So I decided to experiment a little bit, reaching back to my Chinese roots. I took out the chops from the fridge and let them sit at room temp for about 15 min so the meat can tenderize and release the moisture. Then I marinated the chops with soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and a tiny bit of lime and ginger. I heated up the wok with oil and diced garlic (very important, the Chinese begin every dish with garlic in oil). I threw in the chops and let them cook until about 70% done. Then I took them out and sliced the meat into strips (see picture), leaving the sauce in the wok. I then threw in the diced veggies (onions and peppers) and added a little bit more soy sauce. I put the meat back in and stirred until fully cooked, then finished off with a little secret ingredient...sesame oil. This took about 20min total to make. Not bad for a Monday night!

Bacon Cone

Mmmm...bacon...cone...

Sustainable Cooking!

I was milling around in our office break room today, and the normal moronic CNN anchor was replaced by a fast talking, good looking young chef from DC. He was talking about how our current cultural obsession with eating healthy has caused a unsustainable consumption of fish such as salmon, tuna and even hoki. He suggested that we eat more plentiful and easily sustainable fish (and still good for us!) like anchovies and sardines. So I decided to make his cucumber with anchovies recipe. It turned out delicious. A wonderful start to our main course of porkchops and couscous.

Teaboncs (sic)

The New York Times had a story about the demographic make up of Tea Party backers today.
The 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be Republican, white, male, married and older than 45.
This was perhaps a response to the Daily News' recent article on Teabonics. "What is Teabonics?" you ask. Well, I would describe it as a mix between the urgency of needing to pee real bad and the blind rage of a drunken Kennedy brother...yeah.

My aunt and uncle are actually tea party-goers... :(

Porn for the Blind

From this to this...I am speechless.

an AWESOME new direction

No, not really...but I had a sudden impulse today, thanks to inspiration brought on by a fellow CMCer's blog, to start making more frequent posts on this blog. I will start writing down the interesting things I see/read during the day, and then post them. Hopefully that will keep the idea mill running...

I recently saw an interview with British comedian/actor Stephen Fry. He was talking about the show/book he did called "Stephen Fry in America", where he goes to all 50 states and experiences the country that he was almost a citizen. Besides the dry, deriding British humour and wit, he struck a chord with me when he made fun of how carelessly Americans use the word "AWESOME!" The Grand Canyon is AWESOME, the Lincoln Memorial is AWESOME, hamburgers are AWESOME, finding a seat on the subway is AWESOME, so on and so forth...

I've started paying more attention to how I use the expression, and let me tell you, it has been quite embarrassing and difficult. Today, I caught myself describing Tim's Cascade Potato Chips are AWESOME... :(

Ps. Actually, these ARE awesome!

Gimme dat Christian Side Hug!
